How it works
Your letters are a bag of tiles. A word counts when, letter by letter, the bag still holds that letter, or a spare blank stands in for it. Order never matters, and a letter you typed once can be used once: LISTEN makes SILENT, ENLIST, TINSEL and INLETS (four of its six full anagrams), then 5-letter words like STILE and LINES and 4-letter ones like LENS, but not LISTENS, which needs a second S.
Blanks. Type ? (or _, *, .) for a blank tile. Real tiles are always used before a blank, so the blank lands on the letter you have no tile for, and it scores 0 there. QUI? makes QUIZ for 12 points (the Z is the blank); QUIZ from real tiles is 22.
Filters narrow the list the rack makes. Contain takes several letters, and repeating one asks for it twice (ee). Start with and end with take a prefix or suffix: re and ing together keep only words like REWIRING. The filter letters must come out of your rack; they are not extra tiles. To build through a letter already on the board, type it into your letters too.
Tile values
Scores add up the letter values printed on the tiles of the standard English-language edition of Scrabble (the 100-tile set, as tabled in Wikipedia’s article “Scrabble letter distributions”). Other word games and other languages use different values.

The score is the face value of the word only: no premium squares, no bonus for using all seven tiles, no points from crossing words. Those depend on where you play, which this page cannot see.
What this cannot do
- Only words of 4 to 8 letters. The site ships the 4- to 8-letter part of ENABLE (79,211 words). Two- and three-letter words (QI, ZA, JO) and words of nine letters or more are not in it, so a 10-letter rack shows its 4- to 8-letter words but can never show a full 10-letter anagram.
- ENABLE is not a tournament dictionary. It is a public-domain Scrabble-style list of 172,823 words with no proper nouns. It is close to, but not the same as, the official tournament lists (which add newer words, QI among them, and differ between North America and elsewhere). A word here may be refused in a club game, and a valid club word may be missing.
- No board. It does not know what is on your board, so it cannot place words, count premium squares or find hooks. Filters only narrow what your rack makes.
- No meanings. It shows that a word is in the list, not what it means. Many ENABLE words are obscure (AALII, XYSTI).
- Slurs are removed. 89 racial, ethnic, homophobic, transphobic and ableist slurs (and their plural or -ed forms) are dropped before the list reaches your browser, so they never appear even when your letters make them. Profanity that is not a slur is kept.
- A to Z only. Accented letters, digits and other characters are ignored.
Where the words come from
The list is enable1.txt from the dolph/dictionary repository on GitHub, pinned to one commit and checked by hash. Your letters stay in this page: the only things it downloads are the word files for the lengths your rack can reach, from this site.
